The architect of the Estalagem da Ponta do Sol has managed to turn the original buildings of an old Quinta, which was used as a head office during the sugar cane trade at the end of the 19th century, into an impressively stylish hotel.
Perched on top perched on top of a cliff overlooking the harbour, Estalagem da Ponta do Sol is built on different floors terraced by thick stone walks. A lift and covered bridges lead to different levels of the hotel, which intersect and join up at several points.
The 54 rooms (like the Hotel da Vila) has minimalist light wood furnishing, with black stone floors covered in grey rugs and classic black and white pictures on the walls. The rectangular box-like shape of the restaurant with its huge glass windows has magnificent views of the coastline and the banana plantations higher up the valley.
The outdoor eternity pool has beautiful views of the coast and the hotel also boasts a gym, panoramic jacuzzi, sauna, gym and heated indoor pool.
The hotel offers a free daily courtesy bus to Funchal.
On the south coast of Madeira, in the picturesque village of Ponta do Sol, which just like its name suggests has more sunshine than anywhere else on the island. It's a great location if you want to see more of the island and ideal for walking as well.
Perfectly located this hotel is the ideal base for a wide variety of activities, as it's more or less the gateway to other parts of the island which are perfect for canyoning, walking and mountain biking
