Overview

Our seven night holiday in Funchal is the perfect slice of Portuguese island life.

Madeira’s capital city has a wonderfully laid-back, relaxing pace of life which you can’t help falling into as soon as you arrive. We’ll normally recommend a stay at one of our favourite hotels in the city – the charming Quintinha Sao Joao; it’s a short walk/taxi ride from the main seafront Avenida do Mar, the marina, and the famous Zona Velha restaurant district. You’ll have time to explore the city – time to ride the teleferico cable car and the Carro de Cesto taboggans, to take a tour of the Blandy wine lodge and to head to sea on a whale and dolphin watching trip. You could explore further afield by including one of our private guided tours to the dramatic east coast or the mountains of the far north west.

You can also personalise your holiday – if you’d prefer to self-cater our one bedroom cottage at Casa das Vinhas is perfect for a couple, and our Old Town Apartments are ideal if you’d like to stay in the heart of the bustling Zona Velha.

Itinerary

Day 1

You’ll begin your holiday flying direct from the UK/mainland to Madeira. You’ll be collected on arrival in Funchal by our driver, for your transfer to the centre of the city (a twenty-minute drive).

Day 2

For your first day in Funchal, you could take the cable car up Monte Palace Tropical Gardens, returning on a Carro de Cesto – the famous wicker toboggans which run down the steep streets from the gardens to Livremento.

Day 3

You'll head to sea today on a whale and dolphin watching trip from the local marina.

Day 4

You might like to add a private tour of the towns and villages across eastern Madeira.

Day 5

Take a tour of the Blandy’s wine lodge, where Madeiran wines have been aged since 1840.

Day 6

You could explore the spectacular cliffs on the north coast with our resident guide, ending your day with a swim in the famous seawater pools at Porto Moniz.

Day 7

You could end your week with a guided walk along one of Madeira's famouse levada trails.

Day 8

You’ll be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
