Villas do Mar

The Villas do Mar are a collection of secluded sea view villas on the outskirts of Calheta.

Tranquillity and solitude are the watchwords at a Villas do Mar – four beautifully-isolated villas, hidden on a coastal Faja on Madeira’s stunning south coast. Their suntrap terraces and outdoor pools are perfect for early morning dips, and their vine-covered sea view verandas are ideal for outdoor dining in the balmy evenings. Indoors and outdoors blur as you move into the open plan kitchen/diners and comfortable lounges, with ensuite bedrooms on the first floor to make the most of the equally glorious sea views.

Each villa has its own unique character – thanks to the pleasant juxtaposition of the traditional architecture of the original banana plantation buildings, combined with contemporary extensions, interiors, furnishings and fittings:

Villa do Mar I – has one double room, two double/twin rooms and five bathrooms. It has the most-traditional interior, with it’s exposed lava stone walls, cedar beams and shuttered windows.

Villa do Mar II – has one double room, two double/twin rooms and three bathrooms. Decor-wise, there’s a nice balance between the old and the new (but tending more towards modern).

Villa do Mar III – has one double room, two twin/double rooms and three bathrooms. It’s also our recommendation if you love spending time in the pool, which runs directly up to open-plan lounge.

Villa do Mar IV – has two double rooms and three bathrooms. Inside, décor is contemporary throughout – outside, every nook and cranny is filled with endemic plants, overhanging bananas and wild vines; the garden-lovers’ choice.

An old plantation trail leads down to the nearby rocky beach where you’ll find a beach hut, sun terrace, BBQ and sun loungers – for exclusive use of Villas do Mar guests. We also recommend including a hire car during your stay, and it’s a short drive into nearby harbour town Calheta with it’s excellent selection of shops, café bars and restaurants.
