Overview

Treat yourself to an enchanting week at Casa do Julio on our Madeira Villa Holiday.

With it’s seaview infinity pool, 360⁰ panoramic views and spacious layout, our luxurious four-bedroom private villa is the perfect holiday destination for reconnecting with family and friends this summer.

Your holiday begins with a private transfer from Funchal airport, via the cliffs and bays of the island’s magnificent south coast, to the peaceful harbour town of Calheta. Calheta is well-known and well-loved for it’s warm, sunny micro-climate. It’s a short walk from your villa to the marina, with it’s friendly cafe bars, restaurants, and it’s popular sandy beach – the perfect sheltered spot for a swim in the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

We can arrange dinner reservations at one of our favourite local restaurants for your first evening, or our driver will help you to shop for supplies en-route from the airport. Your hire car will be delivered the following day and you can begin to explore Madeira’s legendary beauty. We’ve also included a whale and dolphin watching excursion from the capital Funchal, and a private day with our resident canyoning guides – exploring the remote forests of north Madeira: a side of the island most visitors never get to see.

We’ve based this holiday around a week’s stay for a family or group of six, but we can easily tailor it to different sized groups and for longer stays – just give us a call.

Itinerary

You’ll begin your holiday flying direct from the UK to Madeira. You’ll be collected on arrival in Funchal by our driver for your transfer to Casa do Julio in Ponta do Sol.
We’ll deliver your hire car and it’s a short drive into the centre of Calheta where you can spend the day at the beach.
You’ll head into the island’s capital Funchal for a three-hour whale and dolphin watching trip. The waters around Madeira are one of the best places to observe bottlenose dolphins and sperm whales. In the afternoon, you can take the cable car up to the Monte Palace Tropical Gardens, returning via the famous Carro de Cesto wicker toboggans which run down the steep streets back into Funchal.
You’ll take a drive into the island’s central mountains, via the summits of Pico do Cedro and Pico da Encumeada, onto the high Paul de Serra plain. At 1500m it's a beautifully-desolate part of the island – it’s also the start point for one of the island most popular way-marked walks: the 25 Fontes trail in Rabacal.
You'll spend today canyoning down the Lomba das Faias, scrambling down a narrow forest gulley and abseiling down cascading waterfalls. Safety is paramount of course and our guides Luis and Duarte will be with you every step of the way.
You’ll head north west to the village of Porto Moniz, home to the best seawater swimming pools on the island. The famous Casacata Veu da Noiva ‘ Bridal Veil’ waterfall and the cascata da Garganta Funda waterfall (one of the highest waterfalls on the island) are also close by.
For your final full day, you’ll visit one of Madeira’s most magnificent locations: the Curral das Freiras. This isolated ‘Nun’s Valley’ mountain hideaway is where the Sisters of Santa Clara famously took refuge from pirates in the 16th Century.
Time for one final visit - to the beautifully-barren Ponta de Sao Lourenco peninsula and the south coast town of Machico: location of the first settlement on the island. It's a short drive from Machico to the airport, where you’ll return your hire car before flying home.
