Overview

If you are looking for a two-centred Family Adventure Holiday in Madeira, then look no further. We think that this Family holiday on the sunny south coast of Madeira will have everything you’re looking for. A combination of self-catering and hotel stays, it gives you the right amount of independent and pampering time.

From your two-bedroom apartment at Palheiro Village you have a panoramic view of the Atlantic, and the cosmopolitan city of Funchal and its surrounding hills. There is always plenty going on in this vibrant capital and after your included Whale and Dolphin watching trip on day 2, why not explore the city on foot.

Stroll along the promenade to the market where local farmers sell their produce. It will be a rea tasting experience as they all try to give you a piece of their delicious fruit to try. Look out for the ‘Monstera Deliciosa’, or the Delicious Fruit, as the Madeirans call it. It looks a bit like a green corn on the cob and tastes like mixture of a banana and pineapple. Delicious!

Another assault on the senses would be a visit to the Fish hall next door. Here you can see rows of Espada fish. They look like they have escaped a horror show, with their long slimy bodies, pointy mouths and big eyes. But don’t be fooled, these fish are used in the tasty traditional Madeiran dish called ‘Espetada’. Try it and tell us about it.

We have included two more family-friendly activities, an exhilarating canyoning trip for novices (don’t worry, you will be in good hands with our friendly guides Duarte and Luis), and an adventurous bumpy off- road jeep ride.

From your second base, the family friendly Enotel Baia in Ponta do Sol further to the west of the island, you have the chance to explore other parts of the island by car. You could visit the well-hidden and secluded Nun’s Valley, stop off at remote beaches, have a go at surfing or hike one of the many Levada walks.

Calheta beach, with its imported sand from Morocco is just down the road if you want to take it easier. There is just so much to do and enough to challenge every single member of the family on Madeira!
