The charming Hotel da Vila sits on the cobbled seafront avenida in the sunny south-coast village of Ponta do Sol.
It’s one of our smallest hotels; just fifteen rooms, each with a juliet balcony opening out on the avenida below (with the sea beyond). The décor is modern with a minimal Scandinavian-touch: naturally-finished cedar and locally-sourced basalt stone floors against simple white walls. The hotel has a bar and restaurant on the ground floor, opening out onto the avenida, and there’s a nice selection cafes and restaurants in the village’s main square just around the corner.
Ponta do Sol's known for its sunny microclimate, making it a popular seaside destination for Funchal families.
The Hotel da Vila’s a good option if you’re aiming to walk the levadas trails along the south coast, and the marina at Calheta is a fifteen-minute drive away if you enjoy sailing. A hire car’s not crucial as Funchal and the north-coast aren’t too far away by taxi or you could include a few tours with our resident guides.
