Of all our hotels on Madeira, the Aqua Natura Hotel has one of the most sensational settings on the whole of the island.
It’s a relatively-small, modern hotel hewn out of the windswept rocky coastline at Porto Moniz, where the wild Atlantic waves provide a continuously-crashing soundtrack to your stay. If you love the sea, this is the place to stay – and if you love to swim you’ll be in heaven. Porto Moniz is famous for its Complexo Balnear Piscinas Naturais – natural seawater swimming pools which are protect from (but also fed directly by) the ocean. The hotel’s twenty-five rooms are comfortably modern, each with its own private balcony overlooking the natural pools and out across the Atlantic beyond. There’s also an excellent restaurant with an outdoor terrace, where you can enjoy the sunset-filled evenings.
Porto Moniz itself is a friendly coastal community in the remote north-west corner of Madeira. We’ll normally recommend including a hire car during your stay, to allow you to explore this secluded region of the island – it’s a less-populated area which is often overlooked by visitors to the island, making the north-west a pleasantly-peaceful place to be.
Located in the far north-western corner of the island, this is a world-away from the busy streets of Funchal and you’ll surrounded by Madeira’s most eye-popping coastal scenery. There are plenty of restaurants in the area for your evenings, and we recommend including a hire car to give you more freedom during the daytimes.
Aqua Natura is the ideal hotel if you’d like to try your hand at canyoning during your holiday, and it’s a good base if you want to include some self-guided walks.
